Britten Pears Arts Organisation joins with The Southend Choirs
The Southend Boys’ and Girls’ Choirs have been invited by the internationally acclaimed Britten Pears Arts Organisation to make a virtual choir recording of a new song commissioned for “Friday Afternoons”. The British composer Benjamin Britten was the first president of the Southend Boys’ Choir until his death in 1976 and the choirs have had a close association with the Britten Pears Arts Organisation for many years.
Friday Afternoons is a Britten Pears Arts led singing project connecting teachers and young people with contemporary composers, through creating high quality repertoire, resources and training to encourage challenging and exciting music making experiences for all.
The Friday Afternoons vision is for every young person to have access to high quality music experiences through using their voice. Southend Choirs are one of 10 youth choirs across the UK to record a new song, alongside choirs from Scotland, Cornwall, Dublin and more.
We are recording “Water”, composed by Russell Hepplewhite and Michael Rosen.
